A wide-ranging research project, “Shinoharistics” transcends the conventional boundaries of a book. Inspired by the Polish sci-fi author Stanislav Lem’s exploration of the enigmatic Planet Solaris, which birthed the speculative field of “solaristics,” this project applies a similarly innovative lens to unraveling the opaque oeuvre of Kazuo Shinohara. Employing a theatrical archi-fiction approach, “Shinoharistics” draws upon the description of historical contexts as well as on contemporary philosophical methodologies to decode a body of work that is linguistically and thematically distant from Western comprehension. “Shinoharistics” delineates an architectural spatial paradigm situated at the crossroads of postmodernism and deconstructivism, with roots extending from France to Japan in the realm of ideas and geography alike.
