A traditional house that once housed the area’s central post office, together with a vacant house located across from it, will be renovated with the cooperation of the Architectural Design Association of Japan and Professor Thomas Daniell’s laboratory at Kyoto University. The facilities will include an international cultural exchange center with accommodations, a dedicated hotel building, a Gobara lacquerware gallery (specialty goods shop), and a café. The project aims to attract more visitors and encourage smooth circulation and consumer activity within the area. Building on the rich history and culture of Ensuke Post Town, plans are underway to develop an international cultural exchange and tourism facility, as well as a hub for promoting local history and culture, that will serve as the face of the community in welcoming visitors from Japan and abroad. The district features flowing streams and rows of traditional Japanese houses, allowing visitors to fully enjoy Japan’s nostalgic rural landscapes and natural surroundings. For international visitors especially, it offers the quintessential Japanese atmosphere they imagine. The project aims to attract more visitors by transforming the image of the Hiruzen area from merely a resort destination into a new kind of tourist attraction.
